ITRC Participates in its Second “Invest in America” Event (May 8, 2008)
The ITRC is organizing the Invest in America event on May 8 at Lonza, a Swiss life sciences company with a production facility at the Pease Tradeport in Portsmouth (www.lonza.com).  Invest in America is an initiative of the US Department of Commerce’s International Trade Administration to promote foreign direct investment to the US (http://trade.gov/investamerica/).  Since Invest in America was launched in March 2007, the ITRC has been an active participant in promoting the Granite State as an ideal destination for foreign investments, including representing the state at the first Invest in America event last year at the Medica trade show in Germany.  Federal, state and local officials, as well as members of the press will be visiting Lonza’s facilities.  Commissioner George Bald and DED Director, Michael Vlacich, will also be attending this event.  This site visit at Lonza is part of Invest in America Week (May 5 through 9), where similar events are happening concurrently across the US to publicize foreign-owned companies that have invested in the local economy, created jobs and contributed to economic growth.  Lonza has been chosen as a premier example of such a company within the State of New Hampshire.

Republic
of Rwanda’s Ambassador to the US Visits New Hampshire (May 16, 2008)James Kimonyo, Ambassador of the Republic of Rwanda to the United States, will be visiting New Hampshire on May 16 and meeting with businesses and officials to discuss business and trade opportunities.  Details of this visit are being planned.  Please contact the ITRC for more information.

Joint Trade and Tourism Mission to Europe (October 20-24, 2008)
The ITRC and the NH Department of Tourism are collaborating on a joint trade and tourism mission to France and Italy in October 2008.  This combined trade and tourism mission will provide NH companies an excellent opportunity to expand into the European market.  Italy and France were the Granite State’s 9th and 10th largest trading partners in 2007 with NH exports exceeding $83 million and $77 million, respectively.  There are ample business opportunities in these European countries and the goal of this joint mission is to help NH companies promote and sell their products and services into this lucrative market.  Italy and France are also two of the fastest growing markets for tourism into the US.

Eastern Trade Council Trade Mission to South Africa (November 7-15, 2008)The Eastern Trade Council (ETC), in cooperation with the South African Department of Trade and Industry, will lead a trade mission to Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town from November 7 through 15.  This trade mission features individualized matchmaking services and networking opportunities, and is an ideal vehicle for small and medium-sized companies to acquire valuable market information and meet prospective business partners.  Richard Zurba, the ETC representative in South Africa, will be visiting the ITRC this summer to discuss this upcoming trade mission.  New Hampshire is one of ten states participating in this event (other states include Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont).  South Africa is a growing market that presents significant opportunities for New Hampshire businesses.  In March 2008, the state welcomed the first official visit of South Africa Consul General Fikile Magubane, who met with Governor Lynch and members of the political and business communities regarding trade between New Hampshire and South Africa.

Medica 2008 in Dusseldorf, Germany (November 19-22, 2008)
The ITRC will be organizing participation in Medica 2008.  Medica is considered the world's largest and most prestigious medical technology and equipment trade show.  Last year, Medica featured 4,400 exhibitors and over 137,000 visitors from 100 countries.  Featured products include: medical equipment and services; hospital equipment and supplies; laboratory technology and pharmaceuticals; diagnostics; building engineering; communication technology; therapeutics and orthopedics.  The ITRC participated in Medica in 2007, where it was part of the Best of New England pavilion and promoted New Hampshire as an ideal place for business investments in the first Invest in America event. 

ITRC Signs Agreement with OPIC
The ITRC has recently signed an agreement with the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) to become a designated loan originator under OPIC’s new Enterprise Development Network (EDN) program.  The EDN is an alliance among OPIC, various private and public sector entities, and designated financial lenders working together to assist US companies seeking to invest in projects overseas.  As loan originators, the ITRC will help NH companies obtain financing for overseas projects, particularly in emerging or developing markets.

Trade Winds Europe
The ITRC and several NH companies recently participated in Trade Winds Europe, a trade mission sponsored by the US Department of Commerce that took place in Turkey from April 14 through 16.  While at Trade Winds, ITRC Director, Dawn Wivell, had the opportunity to meet with Turkish media, including Fortune and Newsweek, and do a press interview with Israel Hernandez, Assistant Secretary for Trade Promotion and Director General of the US & Foreign Commercial Service.

Irish Consul General Visits New Hampshire
Consul General of Ireland, Mr. David Barry, visited New Hampshire on February 28 to discuss New Hampshire-Ireland trade relations.  New Hampshire has enjoyed a long-standing relationship with Ireland and the ITRC has previously organized trade missions to Ireland in 1997, 1998 and 2001.

Launch of New Hampshire’s Global Marketing Consortium for Medical Technologies
The ITRC was pleased to launch New Hampshire’s first Global Marketing Consortium for Medical Technologies on March 25, 2008.  Commissioner George Bald was present and delivered opening remarks to a well-attended audience of New Hampshire companies representing a wide spectrum of medical products and services.  Dawn Wivell gave a presentation about the medical technology sector worldwide, significant global trends and market opportunities, as well as resources that are available to help companies remain competitive in this high-growth sector.  The companies then participated in a roundtable discussion about collaborative efforts to increase their foreign sales.

South Africa Consul General’s First Visit to New Hampshire

Consul General, Fikile Magubane, visited the Granite State on March 28, 2008.  As part of the visit, the Consul General toured the facilities of Segway in Bedford, attended a roundtable discussion with the faculty and staff of Southern New Hampshire University, keynoted a luncheon with leaders within the business and political communities, gave a press interview and met with Governor Lynch.  Consul General Magubane and Dawn Wivell also appeared on the WMUR-TV program “New Hampshire’s Business” to discuss trade relations between New Hampshire and South Africa on Sunday, March 30.  South Africa is a growing market that presents significant opportunities for New Hampshire businesses.  The ITRC participated in a trade mission led by the Eastern Trade Council (ETC) to South Africa in 2006 and will be participating in another ETC trade mission there in November 2008.  ETC is an organization within the Council of State Governors comprising the trade offices of the 10 northeastern states. 

Consul General of Israel to New England in New Hampshire
Nadav Tamir, Consul General of Israel to New England, visited New Hampshire on March 26, 2008 to meet with Governor Lynch and discuss relations between New Hampshire and Israel.

ITRC Client Receives Lean & Green Award
Abigail’s Bakery is an ITRC client that has recently utilized Food Export USA’s Branded Program, which provides up to 50% reimbursement of international marketing and promotional expenses.  Congratulations to Abigail’s Bakery for being honored as one of seven companies that have demonstrated how businesses can be both eco-friendly and fiscally savvy.  The Lean & Green Awards were held on March 25 at the Radisson Hotel in Manchester.

Bank of China Forum
Citizens Bank hosted a forum and panel discussion on conducting business in China on March 5, 2008 at C.R. Sparks in Bedford, NH at 7:30 a.m. The panelists included representatives from Southern New Hampshire University, legal firm JurisN, Bank of China, RBS Citizens, N.A. and New Hampshire importers and exporters that have successfully expanded their business in China.  The forum was designed to provide insight about key foreign exchange considerations, best practices for developing successful business partnerships, and information regarding the Chinese legal system as it relates to business operations and practices.


The 2008 Winter/Spring AESPcLink Certification Workshop Schedule has been posted to the Census website. Sessions will be offered in Boston, MA on March 5, 2008. Staff from the Census Bureau, Foreign Trade Division's Automated Export Branch will be the workshop facilitators. Ambassador of Greece Visits New Hampshire
Ambassador of Greece to the U.S., Alexandros P. Mallias, visited New Hampshire as part of a New England visit from December 1-6, 2007.  During his visit, Ambassador Mallias met with Governor Lynch, Greek community leaders and members of the business and academic communities.  The Ambassador also delivered an address at the University of New Hampshire entitled “Greek-U.S. Strategic Partnership in Southeastern Europe and Beyond.”

Medica 2007 (November 14-17, Dusseldorf, Germany)
The ITRC participated in Medica 2007, which took place on November 14-17 in Dusseldorf, Germany. ITRC was part of the Best of New England pavillion and promoted New Hampshire as the ideal state for business investments. Considered the world's most important and largest international fair for medical equipment, the annual MEDICA draws 137,000 trade visitors from 85 countries. Over 4,300 exhibitors from 80 foreign countries exhibit over 1.2 million square feet in 17 halls. Products include medical equipment and services; hospital equipment and supplies; laboratory technology and pharmaceuticals; diagnostics; building engineering; communication technology; therapeutics and orthopedics.  For more information, click here.

Business Insider Breakfast "The Global Economy and What it Means for Your Business"
The ITRC, Citizens Bank and the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce presented a special Business Insider breakfast entitled “The Global Economy and What it Means for Your Business” on November 14 at the Derryfield Country Club in Manchester.  The event featured Dr. Andrew McLaughlin – Director of Economics and Corporate Affairs and Group Chief Economist for the Royal Bank of Scotland – and Dawn Wivell, Director of ITRC. Trade Mission to Saudi Arabia
The ITRC in collaboration with the U.S.-Saudi Arabian Business Council (USSABC) and the Eastern Trade Council (USSABC) and the Eastern Trade Council (ETC), organized a trade mission to Saudi Arabia from November 1-7, 2007. This trade mission provided New Hampshire companies the opportunity to expand their market presence in Saudi Arabia's leading industry sectors. The delegation visited the cities of Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam. As part of the trade mission, New Hampshire companies attended one-on-one appointments, exclusive high-level networking opportunities, as well as number of luncheons and evening receptions. Ambassador of Finland Visits New Hampshire
Ambassador Pekka Lintu of the Finnish Embassy visited New Hampshire on November 13-14 to meet with companies and business associations interested in the Finnish market. Finland represents one of the top 40 markets for New Hampshire exports.  Additionally New Hampshire has a very large Finnish community, with many companies headed by those of Finnish descent.

ITRC and BRC Co-Sponsor the "Product of the Year" with NHHTC
The ITRC and BRC were among the co-sponsors of the “2007 Product of the Year” gala banquet held in Manchester on November 13.  Five finalists presented their products in trade show format to the attendees followed by a 7-minute presentation. Attendees then voted in a secret ballot that determined the winner.  Products were judged according to certain criteria, including their innovation, performance, functionality, value and uniqueness, among other attributes.  Besides being new and exciting, the products must have been released to the market or significantly updated within 12 months prior to the submission date of September 30, 2007.  This year’s finalists were Ellacoya Networks, Global Relief Technologies LLC, Hypertherm Inc., Simbex and UltraVision Security Systems.  Congratulations to UltraVision Security Systems on winning the 2007 Product of the Year award!  For more information, click here.


ITRC Hosts Scottish Delegation
The state of New Hampshire hosted a business delegation from Scotland on October 16 and 17, 2007.  The delegation was comprised primarily of technology and security-oriented companies from Glasgow, who attended the Small Business Matchmaker event sponsored by the Department of Defense Northeast Regional Council and coordinated by NH-PTAP. The delegation also learned about doing business in New Hampshire.  The state of New Hampshire has enjoyed a long-standing relationship with the city of Glasgow, Scotland and was pleased to welcome our visitors from Glasgow.
